Adventureland's Adventure Bay Waterpark plans to add ten new acres of attractions as part of a multimillion-dollar Phase III expansion planned for 2012.
Adventureland Announces Phase III of Waterpark.
ALTOONA, IOWA
The waterpark, which opened three years ago, originally started with the Kokomo Kove water play fortress and was expanded last year with Iowa's longest lazy river and 6 new major slides. According to Park Manager Bill Fisher, the popularity of the waterpark warranted another large addition.
Ground work has already begun for the huge expansion which will include a 25,000 square foot wave pool, Breaker Beach, the largest in
Iowa, which will feature an island in the middle that will be separate the two sides of the
wave pool. One side will feature milder waves for families with younger children and the other side will feature extreme waves for the young adult crowd.
. A new kiddie pool with a swim up food bar and other interactive water elements, another set of changing rooms, and additional cabanas. The expansion will be located behind the
speed slide tower and lazy river and will continue to push the border of park south.
The layout for the Phase III expansion is above. The light blue line represents the current
southern border of the park. The black line represents where the border of the park will be after the expansion. The blue shows the current lazy ricer. The green outlined area will be the location of the new wave
pool. The red outlined area will be the new kiddie pool with swim up snack bar. The pink areas will be the locations of the new cabanas.
Phase III of the waterpark, including the huge new wave pool are on track for a Spring 2012 opening.
