Viva La Fiesta (SFSTL)

Six Flags St. Louis introduced a new festival this year called Viva La Fiesta

Much like Mardi Gras, this is a month long festival celebrating Cinco de Mayo and the Latin culture and heritage

Really like the fun flags on the lights around the main plaza

The celebration takes place in the former Mooseburger Lodge

Plenty of Instragram walls to take selfies with.

Here's another

Inside the restaurant you can purchase specialty food

The one thing we noticed is nothing is considered "meal" portions on the menu

Even the Moose was getting into the spirit of the celebration

They really did a nice job with the decorations.  These were actually animatronics that moved

Seriously - they had some fun decor

Dancing cactuses.  How fun.

The best part of the event was the live entertainment.
The mariachi band was amazing.
Here's hoping this becomes an annual event and maybe can be expanded in the future

Rookie Racer (SFSTL)

It has been a few weeks since we last checked in on the progress of Rookie Racer

We are happy to report that since our last visit there is now significant earth being moved in preparation for the ride

Most noticeable is the amount of hill that has been removed right next to the Boss

Zooming out so you can see exactly where we are talking about

Zooming back in on that area

Now up by the Boss' station looking down on that area

This is the general area where the lift hill is supposed to go for the new ride

One last photo of the area.  We still have a long way to go before this ride even begins to think about opening.  Hopefully once the earth moving is done they can get some footers in and they can begin vertical construction in the near future

Park Update (SFSTL)

I know you were all wondering and NO the front bathrooms are still not done

Both sides of the gate are still closed - AND they have removed the temporary restroom trailer that was outside the front gates.

Also not done yet, is the Carousel.  I honestly cannot tell if they have made any progress since the last time we were here.

In other news both Porky and Taz were at the front plaza greeting guests today

I'm not sure the last time I saw these two characters out at this park

Bluegrass & BBQ (SDC)

It is May at Silver Dollar City and that can only mean one thing...

it's time for Bluegrass and BBQ Festival

We strategically plan our visit during this festival every year to coincide with when Rhonda Vincent and the Rage will be performing

Rhonda Vincent actually grew up in a little town in Northeast Missouri just 30 miles from where I grew up, so we are extremely proud of our "hometown girl"

This year, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage performed 9 concerts and each concert was completely different.  I know we were not the only ones that caught multiple performances over the weekend.

Fire in the Hole (SDC)

The facades are getting more detailed on the new ride building

The red building is the entrance for the ride

Really wish the windows were not so dirty, but you can see the ride has progressed to the point where this opening is no longer being used to get things in and out.  You can also see track right next to the guy in the yellow shirt

Another look at the facades

Trying again to get a better photo through these filthy windows.  You can kind of see the track here

Riding the train you can see the facades peeking over the fence

Here you can see some of the supports peeking through the hole in the facade.

City Update (SDC)

Fried Fancies is now open for business

This new addition looks amazing

Check out these cute barrels in the planters

Lots of neat details on the side of the building.

Here is eating area that is out in the open

Inside the new covered dining area

There is a really cool new view of the waterfall here.
Seriously this is a great place to just relax and get away from the crowds

The switchback walkway to Wildfire connects here

One last look at the insides of the new covered dining area

Here's a look at this massive new covered dining area

Love the flower bed here.

Now that Fried Fancies has opened, they have really ramped up work on the new Furniture Store next door.  This area is still walled off just up the hill from Fried Fanices

One last thing we want to point out is that at Flooded Mine, the fake rocks made out of foam that were once on the roof behind the ride marquee have been removed.
