Map Update (WOF/OOF)

The latest edition of the Worlds of Fun / Oceans of Fun map has been released on the park's website - granted you have to really search for it (and there's not just a printable version).  Let's take a look at some of the changes coming to the parks this season (whenever they finally open)

The most obvious addition is Riptide Raceway at Oceans of Fun.  This brightly colored new racing mat slide replaces the former Diamond Head slide complex.

Now for some surprising changes over in Oceans of Fun.  Buccaneer Bay (the canoes and swan paddle boats) is now gone.  In addition, two of the smaller slide complexes that fed into Coconut Cove are missing.

Moving over to Worlds of Fun now.  Dinosaurs Alive has been removed, as was expected considering that the contract with the company was set to expire at the end of the 2019 Season

I know this is not new to the map this year, but I'll never tire of seeing the floral clock being back on the map

Big news in the world of food, Chickie and Pete's will not be returning to the either park this year.  The one in Oceans of Fun will now by Surf's Up BBQ and will feature a menu resembling the one at Cotton Blossom.  The one in Worlds of Fun is set to remain dark this year as it receives a full makeover for a new concept coming in 2021

Pagoda Soda will be Pagoda Nachos this year.  Definitely the food I think of when I am in the Orient Section of the park

The outdoor counter at Cotton Blossom BBQ will now serve Turkey Legs in addition to the Coke Refill Counter.  This will be a nice alternative in this area for a quick grab-and-go

One last thing to mention before signing off on this update.  The park app has now added Riptide Raceway to its map.  The map on the app is not nearly as fun to look at, but we thought we should mention it in this map update.

World Update (WOF/OOF)

Monsoon has received a fresh new paint job this off season.  Maybe the pool will also get repainted?

Riptide Raceway (OOF)

Worlds of Fun supplied some new photos from the Riptide Raceway construction.  Most of the tubes are now constructed and awaiting placement.

Here are two of the "exits" from the enclosed portion of the slides.  The worlds longest mat racer ends with a fast open side-by-side racing section.

Foundations are curing for the top platform of the ride.  It won't be long before Riptide Raceway goes vertical

City Update (SDC)

A brand new Butterfield Stage has been constructed and is now located across the street from the Saloon, behind the Tin Type Photography Studio.  The Railroad Bridge is to the immediate left of this photo.

Riptide Raceway (OOF)

Work continues on the new Riptide Raceway coming to Oceans of Fun

Here you can see that slide pieces have been staged behind the wave building of Surf City.  They will construct the tubes in smaller sections before moving them to the site for installation

Speaking of the site, the entire structure of Diamond Head is now gone and the former catch pool has also been removed and filled in with dirt.  Footings are supposed to be going in soon, so vertical construction could happen before the end of April

Rivertown Smokehouse (SDC)

Silver Dollar City recently did a live video from their new Rivertown area and we are here with stills from the video to show you the improvements to the area.  Behind our host is the new Rivertown Smokehouse

Looking down the pathway of Rivertown.  The Dockside Theatre is directly behind the host.  The Smokehouse is on the left, across the street is the new Cinnamon Bread store and way down the road is the Playhouse Theatre

The main point of the video was to take a closer look at the Smokehouse.  This is the facade of the entrance to this new 4 million dollar restaurant

Time to go inside

Looking up in the main entry you see this unique light fixture

Time to meet the head chef.  He will take us through the details of the Smokehouse

The first thing you'll see is the SDC culinary team pulling pork, carving brisket and more.  Behind the head chef is the overflow serving line, which will be used during peak season

Those black boxes are the brand new smokers that the kitchen will use

There will be two serving sides. The one to the right will be the main side that is used

Here's where you will choose your main entree.  Brisket, Ribs, Half Rotisserie Chicken, Turkey, and more.

Here's where the side dishes will be located.

Some cool graphics on the wall near the cash registers

Here is the drink self-serve area

Time to check out the seating area, which happens to wrap around the new Mystic River Falls

It will be a lot of fun dining here watching the boats go by

Rivertown Smokehouse will be available on Opening Day.
I know we can hardly wait to try it out

Mystic River Falls (SDC)

The new rafts for Mystic River Falls have started to arrive.

Take a look at the detailing on the outside of the rafts.  Very nice.

There are two openings for entering and exiting the raft.  In between the other two openings are netting to keep riders from going between these seats

The rafts will seat a total of 8 guests and will be situated in groups of two, more than likely sharing a restraint belt

Here you can see the two openings for entering and exiting that I mentioned earlier

It won't be long before we see testing start
