St. Louis Zoo

Welcome to the St. Louis Zoo.  It is a beautiful 73*F day.

The park is nearing completion on its newest exhibit.

Called Grizzly Ridge, it will be home to two bears.

The exhibit is scheduled to open this summer.

The primates of the Fragile Forest were very active today.
This is an Orangutan.

Several Chimpanzees were out inspecting the food piles.

There were several Lowland Gorillas out today but this was the closest one to the guests.

The zoo has a nice carousel.

I always enjoy visiting the Penguins.

I personally feel that the St. Louis Zoo's set up is one of the best.

I love how close you can get to them and the fact they are not behind glass.

There are also Puffins in this exhibit.

The zoo has a great Polar Bear exhibit.

He was really performing for the guests today.

There were lots of sleepy kitties up in Big Cat Country.
This is an Amur Tiger.

Amur Leopard.

Snow Leopard.

African Lion.  Look how happy he is to be sleeping in the warm sunshine.

Grevy's Zebra.

They have expanded the Giraffe enclosure.

With the adolescent Giraffe becoming bigger it was probably needed.

They had a couple of Ostriches in the Giraffe enclosure as well.

Red Kangaroo

Takin.  I have to admit I've never heard of these animals before.

Yellow-Footed Tortoise.

Dwarf Caiman.

Northern Spider Tortoise.

Aldabra (spiky shell) and Galapagos (smooth shell) Tortoises.

That's one big snake - Green Anaconda.

American Alligator.

The underwater viewing tube for the Seals and Sea Lions is awesome.

Sea Lion.

Seal.

Rhino.

Painted Dogs.

Hippo.

African Elephants.

The two youngsters were out today with the herd.
This is one of the best zoos in the nation - hands down.

Time Traveler Construction (SDC)

Carr Excavating has released a new set of photos of the onsite construction.   These photos were taken up on the hill near the station.  In fact you can see the steps leading into the building.

More dirt being moved around up near the station.

The last two photos were taken over by the new Echo Hollow Restrooms.

The size of these footers are just insane.

Park Changes (WOF)

Worlds of Fun provided some new updated photos of the progress in Scandinavia.

It is nice to see so much new concrete.

You can see the progress on the buildings at the front gate.

It looks a little weird without the rental building over there.

Park Changes (WOF)

We have some new progress photos thanks to WOF today.  This is inside the new Grand Pavilion at the catering area.  We are looking down the length of the building towards the new kitchen.

Here you can see a side profile of the new Grand Pavilion.  This is a very large structure that will be able to house a lot of people at once for catering purposes.

Park Changes (WOF)

We're in Scandinavia to look at the progress at the front plaza and gate area.

If you are thinking "something is missing" - you're correct.  The former rental area has been removed and will receive a new structure near the gate.  This area has been rumored to become a new Funnel Cake stand to replace the one that was torn out in the Balkan Bazaar.

The asphalt in this entire area has been ripped out and they are in the process of putting in new cement everywhere.

Over by Pizzo Pizza you can see where they have already laid a good amount of cement.

Panning on around you can see more cement and what looks like a new structure up on the hill.

This "new" structure was the former First Aid building.  It will now be a drink and snack stand.

It looks like they've build steps and a ramp up to this new building.

The other building that has gone up in the background is the new Guest Relations.

There looks to be a building in the former Guest Relations location.  I am not sure if this is the same building or a new one, but we have not been told what will be housed there yet.

Mustang Runner Construction (WOF)

Carts for Mustang Runner have arrived.

There are a lot of carts for this ride.

Who is excited to ride in one of these carts?

This the detail on the nose.

Side profile and lap bar

The reat of the cart.  The holes will be for lights.

Carr Excavating has released a new photo of the onsite construction.   This particular footer is 17 feet deep.  Yeah, that's pretty massive.
